"Resurrection"

From Greek

Anastasia means resurrection — from the Greek anastasis. It's one of Christianity's most spiritually powerful names, borne by the Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov, whose rumoured survival of the 1918 massacre of the Russian imperial family became one of the 20th century's most enduring mysteries. The animated film Anastasia (1997) turned that mystery into a beloved fairy tale. Five syllables of Russian grandeur and theological depth.

Origin & history of Anastasia
Greek ἀνάστασις (anastasis, resurrection) Russian Anastasiya English Anastasia
1
Greek roots
Anastasia comes from the Greek anastasis, meaning resurrection. It was popular among early Christians and has been one of the most beloved names in Russian and Greek Orthodox cultures. Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova (1901–1918) was the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II. When the imperial family was executed, rumours persisted for decades that Anastasia had survived. Multiple women claimed to be her (most famously Anna Anderson). DNA evidence eventually confirmed that Anastasia died with her family. The 1997 animated film Anastasia transformed the tragedy into a fairy tale, introducing the name to a new generation.
