The Roman Senate gave this title to Octavian (63 BC–14 AD), the first Roman Emperor, and the month of August was renamed in his honour. August Wilson (1945–2005) wrote the Pittsburgh Cycle, ten plays covering the African American experience in each decade of the 20th century — the greatest cycle in American theatre.
